how do i make a background image for a 2000x2000 area?

So iam working on an adventure game and i have the area on 2000x2000.I made a background image that size in gimp but when i imported it to gamesalad it said it was too big and resized it.Now it made the background artwork fuzzy looking.How do i make a background for that size?

split it into 2 images.

open it up in photoshop or gimp or any image editing program and cut it into 2 images

use the crop tool either in preview or in photoshop
