Hey guys,

Since I replied to someone saying that I could send them a template on how to do a parallax, I have been getting 6-7 emails a day from people asking if I can send them it, too.

I thought I would upload it and share it here with everyone:

Yep, this template saved my bacon, er, my game, when you sent it the other day. After searching for close to a year for a viable, easily manipulated parallax template and failing to find anything this versatile, along comes this. Thanks for sharing this with the community. :)

No problem buddy, glad to be of service :)

I have been meaning to do a platformer for over a year and started about 30 (no exaggeration), but never stuck with it. Found loads of cool coding things for platformers, just never been super inspired by a platformer project I've started yet haha.

Quick question, MyNameIsAce. Is there a way to wrap it so it seems eternal? I tried putzing with wrap X Y etc and stuff but I'm afraid I'll screw up tweeks I've already made.
  • mynameisacemynameisace Hull, UKMember Posts: 2,484
It is eternal, it stops at the start and end of the scene to give that eternal effect.

Just save as and play around with it. Wrap x will mess it up though :)

Brilliant template, and do tell how you catch a fish with a toothbrush?

I said email only for the fishing tooth brush... Can't be revealing family traditions on an open forum :)

I couldn't find a way to setup the (scene.Camera.Origin.X*1.3) expression. My Expression Editor doesn't have the "Current Scene" functionality.
  • mynameisacemynameisace Hull, UKMember Posts: 2,484
For all current scene attributes, you need to put your actor on that scene, double-click it and then work on that actor. Now you will have access to all the scene attributes.

So, is it true that I have to use your scene? I already have an existing scene that's pretty far along.

Just do it in your scene then. Drag any actor you have in you're game into your scene, unlock it and away you go.

    Very Much Appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Would you mind if i used the all the graphics in this template except for the pink dot?

also when you are adding buttons to a parallax scroller game how do you get them to stay in the screen at al times??
  • mynameisacemynameisace Hull, UKMember Posts: 2,484
@JoeMeister - I coded it with different screen sizes in mind, so if you make yourself a new iPhone project and copy the code exactly, it should be fine (unless I let the odd thing slip by accident).

@LeonardDeveloper - You can use the graphics as you please, I just did them quickly for the template and don't mind them being used. To create some buttons, just create them as normal, then click the scene tab, then layers. Create a new layer and drag that layer to the top and uncheck the scrollable checkbox.

    Your graphics are really good!!,
Do you have a website, or do you do art jobs?? id be willing to hire,

Nope, I just learnt and do stuff for myself. Just spend a couple of months blasting away at 'Illustrator/Photoshop/Inkscape/A million other programs to chose from' and you'll be as good as anyone and will have saved a tonne of money on outsourcing art.

    Hey Ace,

Seems like your template is broken in 0.0.94. Maybe it's just me?

@Ace, Yeah it's the same one I used for Tiny Diggers 4 months ago, it's great! Cheers again for that.

i just downloaded it and yeah, it's pretty screwed up haha.

I think it's just the tile size and height that needs adjusting. The logic should be fine.

0.9.94 has messed up anything that has tiled images, but it's an easy fix, it just needs tile width and tile height changing to the width and height of the image. It's just the new way GameSalad handles tiling images.
