My games has several animated "hazards" & the FPS goes from around 60 down to 30 when the animations are doing their thing & back up to 60 when there's no animation. Is this normal?

30 sec fps drop is a bit too much of a drop i think ....
You need to give us more info about what is happening ,
When the animation starts , does more rules starting as well ? does collision involved ?
How heavy is the animation? how many frames? what is the size of the images (in pixels)
How many actors is animating? etc etc

Give us a better look of what is going on in the scene so we can help.

    Roy.

Ok... Sure. The animated item is a 256x256 image with transparency. The image is set to spin around using the "rotate" behavior. There is a rule that kills the hero actor when it collides with the rotating object. That's pretty much it,
