Graphics with white borders!!!!

How can I eliminate white borders when I want to add a circle or some kind of actor that's not a rectangle or a square.

    PNG 24 via photoshop usually will not add white borders as compared to PNG 8

    i export my images as PNG with alpha transparency using Fireworks. file size is tiny, but they look great.

    thanks all of you for your advices but I figured out that in preview it has a tool named: instant alpha, and it makes the background invisible or alpha 0
