Release Date >> Approval date

Ok...so..

My game was approved on the 12th of November. So I set it to release today (Thursday 17th Nov)

When I look on the new releases list though, I am lumped in with all the 12th November releases, eben though it says "Release date - 17th Novemeber" next to it......I remember people talking about this a couple of yrs ago, but I thought this didn't happen anymore?

So.. it looks like the best policy (for being visible on release day lists), is to release the day after you are approved.

This is completely unrelelated, but... Angry Sperms?! Hahahahhahhaah!

Yeah, that does suck, I too thought that was not still an issue. Maybe that's why QS's Sunshine wasn't listed until deep down in the new releases?

Just checked on the store on the phone...and our game is indeed about a gazillion pages down the list (so it's not just a desktop iTunes thing)

    :(

    sucks!

I think that the release date should be changed before the approval. If you change it after the approval it will be released on the chosen date but with the approval date.

In QS case it was because the app names started with S. His release date was correct.

    @Mark.
I changed the date when the app was "in review" << I assume that was too late then?
I hate the way it all works. grrrrr.......I hate setting release dates when I'm not too sure when it's actually going to go into review.

just sent them this email : (will let you know if I get a reply.....I doubt it. Last email I sent was about a fairly urgent thing....they got back to me 4&1/2 weeks later)

I'm having some confusion with how the lists on the store are ordered by release date.

this game (id:476483421) shows on the store with a release date of 17th November (Today), but even so, is listed with the apps with release dates of the 12th November.

I have included a screenshot from itunes (our game is the 1st on row 2 in the screenshot)
The release date in my itunes connect dash, lists the release date as 11th November (but this was actually the approval date)

So is it the case that the lists are actually sorted by approval date, rather then the actual release date???
If so, it was fairly pointless, setting ourselves a release date, and we should have just released the moment we had the game approved.....but that doesn't really fit in with any real world marketing strategy that anyone would have.

If you could get back to me with some clarification on this issue, I would be most grateful, as it would be a great help in the planning (or not) of any future app-store releases.

Thankyou in advance for your time

They will reply like this (I sent them a mail similar to yours a while ago):

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Apple Developer Support regarding the App Store.

The Released date displayed on an application page within the App Store is the date the first version of an app became available.

The Updated date displayed on an application page within the App Store is latest version of that application went live on the App Store. This date will allow customers to be aware of the date this version was released.

On category pages within the App Store, when you choose to "Sort by Release Date", applications are sorted according to the date the first version of the app went live on the App Store. Sorting by the "original app released date" creates a list where customers can easily find the most recent additions to the App Store.

Both of these dates are automatically set in the iTunes system and cannot be edited in iTunes Connect.

I hope that this information is helpful to you. If you have any further questions regarding this information or to contact the iTunes Connect team directly, please visit the "Contact Us" area within iTunes Connect:

We hope this information has been helpful. Please let us know if you require any further intormation

    Best regards

    .
I don't know if changing when it's "In Review" is too late. I can say that in September I released three apps and I set the release date when it was "Waiting for review" and it was released correctly with the right release date. With one of the apps I even changed the date multiple times because it took a little longer than anticipated but I had no problems with the release date.

    Maybe I got lucky.
