how do we create rain or snow in GS?

is this even possible, i was thinking particles but thought this would be CPU heavy?

Does the rain/snow need to react with other actors?

If not you could add it as a short looping animation with transparency.

Otherwise particles would probably be the only other way to possibly try, but yes you would get some large CPU usage if you have a whole screen full of falling particles. Perhaps lots of recycled rain actors that keep getting moved back to the top.

Someone uploaded a SNOW AND RAIN demo some time ago. The project uses looping images to achieve the effect.

Search for project [SNOW AND RAIN] in the GS Creator Launch window.

The rain and snow doesnt need to react with other actors,

just purely for aesthetics and atmosphere,

while on the subject of recycling, do you think doodle jump is constructed with a large height, or do you think the developer just sends the platforms back up?

    thanks all

Yeah, I agree with Stormy. A short looping animation with transparancy would do the trick. You'd only need a few frames to achieve the effect.

Cool, go with the looping frames then..it should look good with only a few frames dpedning on your speed of rain/snow.

As for doodle jump it most definitely is done with recycling actors, it would have rules in place that change what is coming next to allow them to vary the difficulty what monsters and when to place bonus items (rocket packs etc...) also they have it built in blocks so that a set layout of platforms would come then when completed the next set is queue up for you to jump up through...

awesome theory, I now have to somehow translate that into gamesalad language.

do this: make an actor rain, an actor block

put the black at the bottom of your screen and stretch so it will catch every rain drop

    accelerate the rain down

when the actor touches the block

change alpha to 0, change position to the normal place

    hope this help

Definitely look for the rain snow demo, uses a series of images that are animated in a tiled actor, works very nice.
