Ammo

How can I make my player have ammo? I created an attribute called "Ammo", and when the user presses action button 1 (also and attribute), it sets ammo to ammo-1. When it gets below or at 0, I have text pop up saying out of ammo, but how do I get it to stop spawning the bullet? I'm using the thumb stick template.
