How to capture Ipad Video

Yo!

So I was going to work on a trailer, and have found that the new GS creator preview stutters like crazy. Anyone have a lead on how to capture a full size Ipad screen vid? Thanks!

As far as I know, there are only three methods currently to actually capture an actual IPAD screen video: (1) use a video camera and record the screen (this method sucks and really not usable because your hands get in the way and there is to much glare); (2) jailbreak your iPad and get the app from Cydia that allows you to capture the screen at 24 fps (but I have heard that its really just screen grabs-i.e., 24 screen grabs/second and the output is choppy); or (3) use HDMI out with black magic hardware, and computer (you can find instructions on the internet). This last method apparently works pretty good except that the cords get in the way of using the acceleramator feature and apparently you have to duct tape them in to make sure they don't fall out of the connections. All in all, its not really an option at this point for most people and Apple sure as hell is not going to allow an official App that does it due to copyright issues.

Another thing you might try is running it on the Xcode iPad simulator and capturing the screen with a screen video capture recorder. But that again has limits as well. If anyone know any other (better ways) please let us know because this is going to be an issue unless and until they can fix the stutter issue with the previewer.

You know, the simulator should work. I didn't realize that the sim was scaled down, and can be scaled up to 100%. Thanks, I wouldn't have gone and checked that if you hadn't mentioned it again.

So, the simulator and GS don't get along. My project, which usually sits at 60fps and 24mb, jumped to 10fps and 180mb, which makes for a poor screen capture. Anyone have thoughts on fixing this? I may break down and shop for hdmi adapters...

Yup this is the other massive problem with the current stuttering problem! You can't easily screen record! Making trailers etc is going to be a nightmare! They have to resolve this issue!

I think apple should have a feature that can capture the device icon(maybe in ios 6.0)

There should be a record option for Apple Devs only at least.

I haven't yet tried this but to get around the Stuttering Problem for your videos, you could build your app to a MacDesktop App and closeout GameSalad when you run it. You will probably get a better looking video from that that the old Preview Options.

Depending on your machine/app/performance etc you might get perfectly good results using the iOS Simulator - I have even managed to get iSimulate built into the viewer Xcode project so that touch and accelerometer control was possible. This was back in the summer with 971 but it should still work ok.
