Getting rid of character background

so i made a character using Paintbrush 2.1 then i put the picture into one of my actors. But when i enter the character into a scene the white background comes with it and blocks part of my game background. how do i get rid of my character's background?

tshirt is correct, you need to use a transparent background. but paintbrush supports that feature, so just search through the menus or the help section to find out how to create a transparent background.
