Grr.... looks like my xbox live account is hacked :(

Just a heads up to anyone with a live account.

Just had an email through to say a new email address had been added to my account. (It was of course an address I didn't recognise), so to go to live logon to conform or not.
I obviously went to not confirm it, but couldn't log on....

And then 6000ms points has suddenly appeared in my xbox balance

if I go to re-set my password, it wants to send the password reset link to my actual account, and this new one (which I obviously don't want to do)

also.. looks like xbox.com is down!!!!

Oh that sucks. Do you play FIFA 12? I've heard that a recent group of hackers were targeting people with accounts tied to FIFA 12. Could be something totally different though. This hacking stuff just keeps running rampant. Hopefully you'll get everything worked out. I'll be keeping a sharper eye on my account, thanks.

Just been on the xbox support forum.
Looks like it's happened to a lot of people over the past few months.
Basically, the hackers add an email address to your live account, that they can then use to get a password change request sent to. They then change your password, and log onto your xbox live account. Add ms points, and then migrate your account to another country.....where I assume they can add a new card, and refund the ms points as actual money.
It looks like I intervened before the migration happened, so hopefully that's a plus.

Quite how or why ms lets someone add an email address to an account without a load of security checks is baffling to me.
But hey

Logged it as a fraud with the xbox live team, they have suspended my account until it's resolved, and will apparently issue me with a refund (I dont know as I trust them on the refund part, so will get my bank to handle that I think)

On the forum tho....tales of woe from people who have been waiting 2 or more months to get a resolution. One guy waited 77 days !!!!!!!

Am fuming!

And nah, I don't have fifa 12. But the majority of hacks I read about do seem to be based around that game....
