Trasparent Background?

Sometimes when I add an image to the game with a transparent background it has a transparent background. Other times it dosent. It ruins the look and the collision if it has a white background. How do I fix this? Thanks.

    Are you sure you are saving as a png?

    oh, no, i was using bmp or gif. thanks.

    Make sure you save as png 24 & not png 8.

    If you use photoshop it has a 'Save for Web' option that is perfect.

    how do i change the type of png? i use gimp, i cant afford photoshop.

    Not sure, but I would guess that in GIMP when you choose what format to save in you would get the option then.

    I don't use GIMP, but is there not something like "export" that gives you file type options?
