Do you think Kiip will really be worth it?

If you look in the yellow sticky about Q&A for Kiip you find this in the bottom of the first post "Revenue is recorded when a reward is claimed."

To me that sounds like we only get revenue based on whether they claim the reward or not doesn't it? Let's think about this for a moment. Yes Kiip sounds good in theory, but if they have to claim a reward in order for you to get paid for that ad are you really sure many people will claim the reward? Think about how often you see all these ads on the internet that say "You won an iPad claim your reward" Do you ever click on them? Do you put in your address and such? No because it seems like something that is phishing doesn't it?

I'm not discrediting Kiip. I think the concept sounds nice, but I think most users are going to be skeptical when they see something like You Won Something. And if we only get paid based on when they claim it, even if they do pay out alot, will we really be making anything because how many people would actually want to fill out their info for something they think might be a scam. Could also discredit your game because people would comment saying that they think there is a scam in it. I honestly think that if they want to use Kiip that's fine. But I would really like it if they would integrate an ad network like Mobfox that is easily in both Android and iPhone and has a feature called backfill which allows you to set up another ad network like adMob so that when Mobfox doesn't have ads it calls your adMob account to put up an ad so you are constantly making money. That and Mobfox pays quite well. I just don't know if I would want to rely on Kiip if they have to "claim" a reward for us to have revenue recorded for it. Or atleast that's what it sounds like there. Maybe I'm wrong? What's your thoughts?

By the way. I'm not saying Kiip will be phishing. I'm just saying that most people may think it just seems like another phishing scam is all when they see things like "You Won A Reward" all over the web that are phishing scams.

I definitely would not integrate Kiip in a paid game. Users don't want to be bumbarded with ads when they have already paid for a game. But if I have a free game, sure why not. It doesn't hurt to try it out.

But also as you mentioned in your post, nobody knows for sure just yet if you actually have to claim the prize or not. I do agree with you though, I have never gone to a website to claim a prize. Its pointless. Theres always a string attached in my opinion. We'll all find out when they post the Best Practice for it. Until then I don't think its good to fill our heads with "what ifs" because that would lead to paranoia like it has already in the main Q and A thread.

You'll have to excuse Sheepy. He's been awaiting a long over due very important feature that I fully agree they should have by now so I think hes a bit more sour than he normally would be about kiip. I think it has some promise my concern is right now the Rewards only seem to be us based. so what about the rest of the world? They all get a free app while only the US guys can earn the developer any money.

I dont think people will see it as a scam because the app should notify them it is kiip enabled and explain that certain achievements will offer them certain rewards. My only concern is the payment will only be off US apps. so it may not fly all to well.

And I do think people will claim the rewards if it is explained upfront and they are not blind sided. by these random rewards and as I understand it "claiming meanis entering your email and hitting accept. Not actually using the coupon.

@pickpocketStudios. I think a paid app may actually be the better route to be honest. Its not a bombardment. if they are given the option to active. Remember we are calling them Rewards. Not ads. You can set the some rules and prompt the user at the beginning if they would like to active Kiip Rewards or not. Giving them a choice. People seem to like options. And since its only a US thing right now. Its better to not put out a full free game that is only gonna have the monetizations in one country. Im gonna download a few free kiip games and post the links so you guys can check it out. (US users at least)

Ya I agree if Kiip really is successful and people are willing to claim prizes I would put it in my paid apps as well because otherwise they are excluded from getting prizes. And it's not really paranoid I'm just looking at what they were saying as far as how it seems we get paid and from that quote I was a bit concerned that it may not turn out as effective and making developers money if they have to do something with it. When I see ads I'm extremely unlikely to click them especially if they say something about getting a reward. But we would be missing out on tons of impressions (which is just the ad being exposed by people) if we aren't being paid by impressions.

Also I agree with tendrmer. Not getting paid from ads just because people are outside the US would definitely hurt our revenue as well.

    wow thanks Aaron!

I played the smoody game you posted and on the 3rd level I cut all three pieces of wood with one strike and a kiip reward was triggered. You can enter your email address right there in game and hit claim reward without even leaving the app. It sends you an email with your reward. There really isn't any hassle whatsoever with it. Only thing I wish it did was automatically integrate your email address from your itunes account instead of having to enter it in manually. But thats just me being lazy.

Pretty cool feature I must say.
