Layers within a scene

Hi, I'm trying to create a simple scoreboard that counts up each item that is collected, like in Mario when he collects coins. This part is finished and works fine but I am currently trying to get it to work as a hud/overlay on the scene. I found the layers area for the scene and thought that if I moved the counter to the new layer I created that I could make it so it doesn't scroll with the scene but instead in just disappears.

If I leave the counter on the background layer it shows up but it scrolls with the background. If I move it to the new layer I made, it disappears. Is there a checkbox I'm missing that makes it do this?

Thanks!

Make a new layer called HUD. Put it at the top of all your layers and make sure the check box "Scrollable" in UNchecked. Then when you place the score counter, put it INSIDE the guidelines within your scene.

Thanks for the help but nothing. I did this exactly earlier too but just to see I repeated the process and the same results. I did notice that when I changed the HUD layer to scrollable it showed again though. There must be something I'm missing or perhaps I can't use a display text with this actor for it to work?

To be visible and remain visible actors in a non scrollable layer have to be place within and remain within the first screen (e.g. On an iPad landscape game the actor would need to be Placed at a X location less than 1024.) my guess is that is your problem when using a nonscrollable layer.

I have the phone in portrait mode but you think that the x or Y location might be putting it off screen maybe?

Well to update I am still having this odd problem. My counter is set to 0,0 as far as X and Y coordinates go but it still won't show for some reason. I am using a portrait view in GS for the iPhone if that helps.

Nevermind you can close this. I found what I was looking for here: http://gamesalad.com/wiki/how_tos:gsc_static-hud?rev=1293682819
