Finger stroke?

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone had done finger stroke detection already? I need to detect if the player makes an up or down movement with a finger on the iphone screen. Any advise or pointers?

Good point. I record the Y position on touch pressed, then substract to it the Y position on touch released. The difference between the two tells me if it went up or down. Easy
