iStencyl is released today! ... Like GS and apparently with no errors, you think of iStencyl?

EDIT by SSS: Please refrain from advertising prices - anyone interested in iStencyl can investigate that on iStencyl's forum...

Yes...looked a bit around on they're website and I think it's a nice developing-program too. I saw that you can make with stencyl custom loading weels or bars and thats very nice!!! Would love to see this with gs. You can make universal builds too. I think stencyl is a very great tool :)

What I like too is that the stencyl splashscreen is very short and not so long as it is with gs. I think the gs splashscreen could be a lil bit shorter. I would love it too, to see a new splashscreen from gs for free users!!

Edit: If I can see they have no long loading times just at the start with the custom loadin bar.

Not only that you can see the code, but they let you export the source file in xCode.

What I like the most is how you can share the code with other people: you make a screenshot of your code and send this screenshot to someone else; once they drag it to the scene, the image is converting to the actual code. It's like magic!

Be interesting to see what the performance is like on a build.
Not looked at Stencyl in a long while.

I'm dowloading it as I write this. The interface look much more usable than GS. I don't understand why GS hasn't updated to a more usable interface? I think they need better programing talent. Even the damn forums are still having that login error, I mean come on, any IT person worth a dam would have it fixed by now. Spend some of the six million on Great talent GS not good or you'll all be looking for a job I imagine in the coming years.

oh GS team... the competition faeries are creeping up on you...

hurry up before you lose your user base...

Just looked it over. Wow,GS you have some serious competition. They give you all the stuff we've be asking for. GS better seriously step up their game because by the looks of things these guys are zooming past them. And being able to see the code, finally a company without paranoia.

at a standstill with my GS projects … so many frustrations … will spend sometime trying iStencyl … it looks good!

guys, keep this focused on features. if it ventures into how to use the product it will be closed. they have their own forums for that.

Yup, competition just got serious. They offer a lot of features that GameSalad don't and its like they've been monitoring the forums and taking the things we have asked for. Only had a little play so far and confused a little as so used to GameSalad, thats to be expected though and I'm sure i'll soon have the hang of it. Theres a learning curve with everything and I'm sure that'll become the norm when used regularly enough.
1st impression are very neat though, my pro subscription runs out with GameSalad soon and as i have said before, i will be looking at my options. I would see it as a shame to leave GS, i've been using it for the last 2+ years and obviously know it very well, however, if they can't start releasing updates quicker, improving performance and giving extra needed features, without the major bugs thats are always coming up with the releases, then i see GS is leaving me no choice but to look at the competition.

I've been taking a look every now and then to see how it was developing ... one additional very interesting thing is the main guy Jon is on their forums all the time and I even saw him offer to help tie in a database for someone that was not yet supported. Indications so far is that improvements will come fast. Would like to know if the performance of a completed app is good, load times etc, is the physics realistic for most gameplay actions, how is the workflow using the software (looks good at first glance) and are there features in GS that it doesn't have that would be a deal breaker? GS ... you have a lot of love here ... but even the most loyal appear strained in their relationship to you. I think that you may need to reach out to some of them, discuss your plans, let them see the future is bright ... just so you know (I'm saying this trying to help) ... if TSB goes so do I ... (he's the reason I'm here in the first place).

lots of nice features: sprites, joints, collision points, arrays

only thing I don't like is having so many options in the editor! ;)

PS Is TSB getting the ISWHelper.com domain ? ;-)

id certainly say that if TSB left and the community heard about it, many people would jump ship.

I was in their beta testing program for the iOS , and been working with iStencyl for few months now,
I can tell you that after using GameSalad for 2 years its very difficult (at least for me) to adjust to the program , cause my way of thinking is very GSish and iStencyl is different , that means the learning curve for a GSer is slower than a person who didnt use GS at all.. (IMO)

All in all , competition is always great , and i hope this will make GS to gear up their updates on improving performance and needed features, cause i love GameSalad and the community but soon i will have to make a choice if i am to renew my pro account or jump ship.

GameSalad , currently you are the favorite , but please wake up !

I love the low loading times in the game and the custom loading bar at the start so much :)

Many of the games on the site below have only a short loading time at the start and then no more or just short loadings :)

Hmm, I've bene waiting to do a video-based app for about a year, so may develop it in iStencyl or just wait it out until we get video.

yes it does hv lots of features compared to GS, including the use of sprite sheet.
However i was trying it's beta since istencyl release and never got to create anything yet lol.
seems like the method of creating rules n logic is way way different from GS and the use of blocks like programming still needs some getting used to.

    DEAR ALL,
For me; well i will always be a GS user so this doesn't really concern me, although i have played around with it,
    so quick comparison here:
    iStencyl
    ___________________________________
    -No bugs as of yet
    - Way better pricing!, more features
    - Code sharing
    - integrate and export to Xcode

    -----------------------------
    Gamesalad
    _____________________________________
    - Some small bugs, but very fast fixing of them
    - Not so good pricing, doesn't have the best of features
    - NO code sharing
    - No xcode integration
    - No html size customizing
    - crappy loading icon
    - Easier to use interface
    -Friendly software
    -Amazing Community
    - Priority Technical Support
    ------------------------
Free Publishing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!/Game creation for everyone ;)
    ------------------------
    ______________________________________________________________
From this comparison it may seem a little bit harsh on GS, but i am simply comparing features, i will always be a GS user, and will never migrate this is constructive criticism..
iStencyl is a major threat to GS, but i think the one way we can remove this threat is by changing the pricing some of my ideas are subscribing to specific tools per year, or simply a cheaper package then $500 because stencil is cheaper but yes that is because of it not including free publishing, but i think it is urgent that gs brings in new pricing methods or lowers the price!,
A MUST that GS has to KEEP is free publishing, as it is a massive selling point for GS, and attracts a lot of customers.... when i was joining and i saw it was free, thats one of the main points of why i joined, if i saw that it was $200 or something, i would have gone straight for corona, or something else............
So outlined in my opinion things that GS should invest in and fix are:
    -Pricing
    -Overall Stability
    - FEATURES
    ____________________________________________________________________
A lot of people who are reading this right now may just brush this past there minds but i think this is a critical threat to GS, and it needs to be fixed................

My comment might be getting off topic but ill post it anyway since i might never have another chance to say this haha. Why go backwards? IF your gonna learn something new go for something like unity with one of the visual scripting plugins and blow istencyl out of the water.
