Hi all

My current game which is near completion, is running at 50-60 fps, Is this reasonable?

Also, in my game there is a left, right and jump control, is it possible to use a keyboard to test my game within the iOS Simulator?

Thanks all

Hi, I have tested it using xcode ios 5.0, i presume this is the iphone 4s?, that is a good point, I wonder if you can download different device configs when you select a device in xcode?

Suddenly I have a shiver running down my spine, I hope iphone 3g can handle it, otherwise, Game over for me!!

You should download the GS Viewer and set it up on your actual device. This will tell you how it runs exactly on your phone and base it from that

I have the GS viewer, thats what I have been using to test, i just need to download the configurations for other ios devices in order to test.

Not sure why you was saying about Xcode then, i thought you meant that simulator.

So, what device have you been testing at getting between 50-60 FPS?

Just saying, your brain processes images directly from your eyes at round about 60 fps. So you pretty much can't distinguish your game from reality, if it runs near that speed. Movies are usually rendered at about 25 fps, but it will look awkward for a game though.

    @beefy

When I select the GSviewer, in xcode you can target the platform you want to test for, for e.g. ipad, ios device or ios simulator 5.0, i am testing using the ios simualtor 5.0, what device is the ios sim 5.0?

@dantuma -not sure in what you getting at, are you saying that 25 fps for an iphone game is acceptable?

    @ FirstDan
No, 25 fps is pretty bad for an iOS game. Just giving you dudes some ideas of the fps spectrum. 30+ good, 40+ More than enough, -25 bad.

@dantuma - thanks for the heads up, very viable information..

When you run the gs viewer in Xcode, you don't want to chose simulator, you want to say its your device that you should have setup for provisioning? This will install the viewer onto your phone and then all you do is when in GS, launch the app from your phone and it 'streams' across ... no more Xcode needed.

@beefy- I havent enrolled to an apple developer program just yet due to the fact that i wanted to sink my teeth into GS before i actually commit.

Is it possible to test on ios device without the need of the apple developers program?

I also wish to test on an iOS device without paying $99 every year!

You have to be a member of the Developers Program to be able to test on your device. You won't be able to even install the GameSalad Viewer without it.
