Sizes - for all things?

Hey there, I was wondering what size canvas I should start on with the following:

Regular background
Logo
Dodgeball type object

P.s. I am making a game in iPhone Landscape format.

Also, sorry if this is a silly question.

    You should also keep in mind the target size of your screen. For iOS the iPhone retina displays are 960X640 (the older displays are 480X320), the iPad display is 1024X768.
