Should I worry about performance on my 3g?
I have a game that is a bit sluggish on my 3g, but seems perfectly fine on my ipad. I know that I should optimize as much as possible, but I'm wondering if the 3g tests are still necessary. I'm kind of thinking that if it runs fine on the ipad, then it will also be fine on the Iphone 4+ series seeing as how it's the same processor, so that's good enough.

There are probably more 3GS users than 3G users these days. Your serious users (or customers) have already moved on via tech-trend. People like to renew their phones more than any other 'wired' device that I know of at the moment. I would not worry too much about legacy support when launching into a new era of iOS. If you had enough demand for it, you could do a compatible build.
think 3G owners are going to have to update …
