You need to request a refund form the guy but most likely pay-pal is not going to just pull your money back.

You can say goodbye to that $50.

Next time don't pay up front especially if you haven't worked with the guy before.

If you're working with a new artist and they want a portion up front use a service like E-Lance.com where you put the money into a centralised account (so you don't have it, but he doesn't either) and when you've agreed the milestones have been met you release teh funds into his account.

File a claim - include ALL the email communications you have had https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=xpt/cps/general/PPDisputeResolution-outside

Definitely file a claim but as micksolo said, for future reference, make sure you see and receive your graphics before payment; especially with someone you've never worked with before.

file a complaint straight away because if time runs out with paypal you have no come back at all,i think you have 6 or 8 weeks to make a claim from date of payment

    Tricky one.

If I was doing graphics work I'd like 50% up front. The difference would hopefully be that my website and communication before would look professional so would look trust worthy. Also if I'd failed to do work I'd certainly refund.

I guess try emailing the guy otherwise try filing a complaint with PayPal but that could be a much slower route and might not be successful.
