Hmmm... After A look at this video over and over I just feel its missing something, I can't put my finger on it.... But I would consider Paralax Scrolling Rocks if I were You,

Interesting thought, I just looked at some parallax technics. Have to see how best to incorporate that on a top down view.

Ya.... It would be a hard but you could have a couple of rocks, some on layers below the tank and some on layers in front...... That might work well with maybe some type of parallax....

@leonardD I've been studying up on parallax and I think I'm gonna try having more detail in the sand layer and turn off scrolling and coordinate a subtle movement with my tank movement. Thanx for the idea! :-B

Just a suggestion but I downloaded a brush for photoshop which has all the ranks of the military , so on your game you could start out at private then work your way up the ranks getting promoted,you cold have your rank badge showing on the screen,I'd also record your voice saying weldone soldier you've just been promoted,only one audio file so it's not gona kill your game performance.
I know you have to make your tanks move quick but the last tank that was moving looked really unrealistic.
I was in the military for 12 years I've been in a few tanks and mlrs,you could compensate for the loss of speed on the tanks by reducing the speed of your turret

That's why a have them on the rail they are on a range and not moving on their own power like a sled but I do see your point. Getting this target range to have the right feel has been tricky but it's getting better Thanx to the input from others.

I am going to add a scoring system and ranks. As to the audio, the whole game will have audio integration from the command center code name GHOST TOWN.
