How to make Double Dragon type of game?

I was thinking to create this type of game, but there were 2 problems I didn't know how to solve, so I scrapped it wait until someone who can create this type of template. Well, I guess I just ask some experts in the forum instead of waiting for the template.
-How to do Jump and Jump & attack? (I assume that game didn't use gravity?)
-How to solve the overlapping problem if an enemy walk in front or behind the actor?

    Thank you TSB. How about Jump? That seems a big problem for that kind of platform game.

    @tshirtbooth - I was talking to @kinwaing on Skype and he's made a good point.
    Jumping with a 2D engine on a 3D layout, how would one accomplish this??

    Neither of us have a clue! GS First maybe..

    @tshirtbooth - then how would he jump up and down on that kind of layout?
    IMO it'd just look like moving up and down the street.
