An OS X Lion peculiarity...

...well, it is to me...

Since I've upgraded to Lion, I notice that all programs – Safari, GameSalad, SimpleText, Grab, etc – remember and load previous files when opening again fresh. I don't like this and find it a strange feature that anyone would want....

Does anyone know how to change this back again so that all programs - when opened fresh – doesn't open previous files? Thanks.

@gyroscope not sure if this is it but....

    Disable Application Restore
iOS applications can restore themselves to the state they were in when you last used them, and now Mac OS X can do this, too. In most cases this is pretty useful, but sometimes it doesn't work properly and, with some apps, it's actually a nuisance. For whatever reason you want to disable it, you can do this very easily. Just go to System Preferences, click General, and uncheck the box beside "Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps."

System Preference > General > Number of recent items: uncheck the Restore windows

I like that feature … but not in all apps and especially not in Preview or TextEdit … I just clear the recent items menu.

I thought it might be relatively easy to switch off that feature... just couldn't find where! Thank you CC and MH - @capitalcarnage & @MotherHoose for your help. :-)

PS: I haven't done this yet as I've just gone to make a cup of tea - thought you'd like to know that! - but was thinking, if there's an option to open just the final file in an app, that might be useful for some... I wait to sees.

Edit: all or nothing, ah well. Nothing, then. Thanks again!

Seems there isn't, CC, never mind; or the feature per app... thought that might be a bit much to expect. OK, I'll let you get back to your beige box now!

hey capitalcarnage I was checking my steps while you was posting!

@gyroscope … from years of beta testing, I have learned to click everything in a newBuild … open and explore what every click leads to

and, System Preference is one of favorite my places to go
did you know you can access absolutely tons of systemVoices (nifty accents) in SystemPreferences > Speech >Text to speech ?

I've been hating this feature since I upgraded to Lion. Although, this saved my arse a couple days ago. I was working in Illustrator, Photoshop, and GameSalad. I'm usually good about hitting save frequently, but this time I didn't. It was storming outside, and lightning took out the power for a couple of minutes. I was pissed, I just knew all that graphic work i had just done was gone. Fired up the computer again when the power came back on, and Illustrator and Photoshop opened back up right where i left off, no loss of progress. I've since changed my opinion of this feature.

MH: yes, you're right, I should check out new features (or the General Prefs at least) when I upgrade the OS; just haven't got the time or patience sometimes....

@SlickZero; hey, excellent, it must of made temp files; that might make me reconsider switching the feature back on...
