Could you please comment how many downloads your app has gotten, and how much the app costs, that you've made with Gamesalad. Just seeing how people are doing with Gamesalad...
Thanks!

    it's not that easy guys, i'm working my ass off . (more than 9-5, more like 16 hour day and 7 days a week) and still not paying as much as a "regular job"... someone once posted a poster/image that says if you are good at programming you should work as a programmer if you are good at making game work at a game company lol... if you want to make nearly as "much" as TSB and some others.. be prepare to give up your life. lol if it's quick money you are looking for go be a waiter... you can be making $2-3k a weekend at a high end luxury restaurant...

    Yeah it seems like you have to have @6 games out and get at least 1 out a month to make a living ...give or take.....unless your game is called tiny wings :D

    It's 90% marketing, I don't care what anyone says, if you make money without marketing yourself it's pure luck.

    i wouldn't say it's only pure luck, products that needs 90% marketing is mainly inferior product that people can't fall in love with on the first sight, and there are defiantly products in the market place that relies on word of mouth. IT IS however becoming more and more important as time to market has become shorter and shorter and companies can less likely to afford to develop their product slowly and to perfection, hence lots of half finished product gets thrown out in the market place trying to compete with other half finished product all relying on marketing to see who's voice is louder... with no real traction.. personally i believe crappy products that relies on marketing and yet makes money is the ones that's pure luck lol.

    just my humble 2 cents.

    My first app (Duck Up) came out at the start of January and has had around 120 downloads at 69p ($0.99). Most of those are friends, or friends of friends and the first 100 downloads came in the first 3 days. Right now, I'm lucky if I get one download a day.

    However, that's exactly what I wanted... enough people to give feedback to find out if it was worth me spending more time on it (I released it with only 9 levels in one environment). I haven't "marketed" much at all yet, except to friends.

    Thankfully, people loved it so I'm continuing to work on it, adding more content, bug fixes and features as people have requested. Once I've got a decent amount of content, then I'll market it :)

    Penguin Pouce has only made close to $100 and it's been about 3 weeks. Not as good as I hoped - but we'll see how IAP do. :P

    the secret to success is... (drumroll please... ) ................... getting more downloads...

    @ultima - darn, then I was going at this the wrong way the whole time! ;-)

    @Braydon_SFX all joking aside ... there's some truth in that as well ;) if you know what i mean.

    @ultima - Indeed.

    @Ultima - Couldn't agree more mate.
    But there are also fantastic games that fly under the radar and never get the success that they genuinely deserve.

    And I despise people who put half finished (should be free) games on the app store. I won't release a game until I can happily say it's completed and not rushed.

    Back to the Marketing side of things. www.facebook.com/FabledApps has over 500 likes now.
    About 100 of those are people I convinced/begged/nagged until they liked my page lol :D

    Someone said they all mean nothing because they aren't all genuine fans, but when it comes down to it two companies you know little about, who would you check out first, the guy with a dismal 80 fans or the guy with over 500 fans? There's my marketing point! Cause when I have a game that comes out and do an update saying "Yay my first game is out my dreams are coming true" and someone likes it not because they like games, but because they see someone getting somewhere in life and they are happy for them, then it pops up on all their friends newsfeeds and some of those friends just might actually like games.

    Uh oh, giving away my big juicy secrets!

    I also did a little Facebook advertising which got me about 40 likes, shocking because I have no games out but random people still liked my page :)

    P.S If you haven't liked Fabled Apps yet please do :D

    @tshirtbooth how can I sell items in the Gamesalad marketplace
  • ozboybrianozboybrian PRO Posts: 2,102
    @DEGOMobile - You're probably better starting a new thread as that's kinda not topic relevant :)
    And would most likely get more answers!

    Wow @TshirtBooth - I thought you made a million a year ;)

    @ozboybrian I've made 2 of the discussion topics before but no ones ever commented on them do I figured, when @tshirtbooth is right here, why not ask him :D
