What happens when 1,000,000 kids are making games?

The competition is going to get so fierce i'm concerned being successful will be near impossible.
THIS IS JUST a discussion. Not a big deal, but I think it's a good point to bring up.

Not to mention people who charge money for something that basically sucks (no offence) like my first game will suck and I'd wanna charge people for it, but they get something that isn't so good then next time they'd look at mine or your game and be less likely to buy because they'd be worried to get the same result thus they would only spend money on reputable company likes HalfBrick etc.

I think time is of the essence if you want to make a name for yourself.

With each round of new technology there are early people who make money, the talented who make great stuff (s0me of whom will make money), and the masses who use the tools when it gets easy to make something, then the big boys who have bucks to sell with pr and invest in development. Look at the print, music, photography, or film (not that it can hardly be called that anymore). Doesn't mean that great stuff will not stand out, but there will be more noise. getting noticed might well become more difficult, but only with something of real note will success come. It is still down to creativity to make something amazing, and this can be driven by a single person.

from what another member stated: his app was accepted last year; his update was rejected this year … for failing to meet standards of design
-thus Apple may be getting more content quality selective in testing … hopefully
-bigName studios only release a few titles a year
-playing games is addictive and therefore users will always be looking for new games to play
-the number of devices in use increases and we get more people to sell to
-our skills increase with each game we develop … so our games get better

if we want to make games, we are lucky to have a great way of doing so; an easy way of marketing; and an available consumer base
and, we have to be different … as @Fry said

@MH +100 success never comes easy it's very hard work. It takes devotion, belief in ones self and brutal determination. If it was easy everyone could do it. That's what makes it special. We live in what I call a microwave society, we want to pop in a success frozen package and have it cook in one minute. This is TV and movie fantasy. I've spend time reading about the great successful creative people, Walt, Jobs, the guys at Pixar et... It took decades for those people to find their stride and reach their positions. Why so few succeed is when most quit on their dream the successful never quit and they are the rare few with the spine to risk their life on a dream. But having said that a dream is not enough you must have a measure of talent and be constantly pushing the limits of your abilities and gaining more skill and developing your talents to compete. Here is the secret to learning, the goal is not to be the smartest guy in the room to get an ego boost, the goal is to put yourself in the rooms where everyone else is smarter than you. When you do that you have a room full of people to learn from!

Thanx @ultima I live this attitude and it has gained me a measure of success but you can never be satisfied, one milestone needs to become your stepping stone for your next goal. A fulfilling life is one filled with constant learning and growing. Too many people in this life are on cruse control. As I put on Facebook recently.

Well there are 27 million books on Amazon, 13 million songs on itunes and 500k apps on the app store(last time I checked). It's looking more and more like you are you have to go through a publisher of some kind.

@Mammoth could be right! But persistence does pay off.
I think people who are just in it for the money will really struggle to succeed though.

I enjoy making games and hopefully wanna make some money so fingers crossed my own publishing does the trick :)
