well he started here, and also still has sues chef title, so game salad likes him enough to A. let him keep his title when he no longer helps on the forums B. openly promotes his game not made with gs, which others would get shut down C. the fact his first game at least was originally game salad inspires us
so ur right but I'm still EXTREMELY jealous of him and also wish him well
Fire Maple has a very unique situation, and he's still very helpful to others in the forums. For one, he's super modest, and doesn't attack or criticize GS, or try to promote other SDK's, he's just here making games like everyone else, so that's why he's able to post about his games. He's just a very humble, guy.
I think he's very inspirational! And the fact that Grisly Manor was originally made with GS is even more inspiring as you stated.

haha! ... yep i really actually justify making games by using examples of guys like Joe... he made it, I know i can one day with just the right work ethic and dedication... good on you joe best of luck with your sales and future games Syed.
Yeah, The Lost City is doing really well. I am so excited. It is currently ranked #126 overall in the US and climbing. I am still hoping for a feature next Thursday, I am pretty sure the game came out too late for this week. It was released Monday night at midnight. I believe that Apple has an internal meeting on Tuesday to discuss candidates for the Thursday New & Noteworthy. Hopefully the game stays up high enough for them to notice. I set the price to 99¢ this weekend. Mostly to keep the upward momentum, but also to try and stay ahead of this week's featured apps.
The Secret of Grisly Manor has also been doing amazingly well. It is the current #1 App in Italy! As well as the number 1 game in many of the smaller countries. It is currently #53 overall in the US and climbing. I put a large badge on the main menu to drive people to the new game, hopefully it has some effect.
The Lost City currently holds the #2 spot in the entire Amazon Appstore, having just unseated all of the Angry Birds and Cut The Rope!
It just went live on the Nook Apps store this morning, and has risen 2500 spots to the #19 position. Hopefully it continues to rise!
Today The Lost City was #41 in the Brain & Puzzle category on the Android Marketplace. Sales has been really good there. I am excited to see what tomorrow's rank will be. They update the entire Android Marketplace once a day at 8am. At least I don't have to relentlessly check stats over there
so for the images did you literally take the "paintbrush" and draw everything over pictures? or is there an effect that turns it into close to that image using the original pictures?
@mgm: Yeah, I use many different little bits of photos to build up the images. I then use the paintbrush tool to add little details and to create things that I don't have photos for. For this game, because there is so much foliage, I also used the clone stamp tool to duplicate little ferns and such. I also use a lot of layer styles to add things like lights, shadows, mists, glows, etc. and make the image as cohesive as possible. The photos are taken at different times of the day and the lighting doesn't usually just work "right out of the box". So lots of color correcting etc. I try to make the images look a little otherworldly, with intense saturation.
Each image in the game has around 200 layers in Photoshop, so they are definitely complicated little "paintings".
I went to a traditional art school where I focused on drawing and painting, so it is a little bit of a departure to work like this with these photos but it is a lot of fun. (if a bit time-consuming!)
