Splash Screen Question

Hey all,

I am confused about the Splash Screen that GS allows you to put in as an image.
I was going to do this for Penguin Pounce, which is landscape, but it wants me to put in a portrait picture.Why?

Also, it's just going to be a picture?
I wanted it to do some fading etc.but if it's just a picture, I cannot do that?
How did @tshirtbooth do his splash screen for Tiny Balls? Notice that his splash screen is part of the game.

braydon have the flash screen be the company or what ever, then have the first scene be the animated "splash screen"
