Jump Height!

Hi, Currently working on a plat former and I would like to be able to adjust the height of the jump by pressing the button down longer. My original idea was to touch the Jump button, when pressed for under 5 seconds, the character will jump half the height as he would if you pressed the jump button for anywhere over 5 seconds.... similar to Mario. Any help will be greeeeeaaatly appreciated. Thanks
