"Hot New Releases in Appstore for Android" Amazon App Store

I'm new to the Amazon store, but is this just a list of new releases, or is it akin to the N & N on iTunes? I'm featured as #10 on this list on the Amazon appstore homepage, and am just wondering how I should consider this.

Edit: Just moved up to #7. Might be some sort of sales algorithm.

Getting in that list surely helps. My game was ranked #1 in new releases, a day after it was released. It sold 75 units that day and was ranked #92 in all games. The sales dropped down to 64 next day..by then it was out of the new releases list.
The shocker was that the sales dropped to 8 units the next day!..There were no bad reviews, in fact the only 1 review the game had was 5 star.
Looking at this I am not sure about the app discovery in amazon app store. I mean if you are not in top 100 or new releases list, the performance is significantly worse if compared with the Apple appstore.
Would like to know how your experience goes. Anyone else with any numbers please share

I now enter day 2 on both the Hot New Release and the Movers and Shakers lists (6 and 3, respectfully). When looking at daily sales, its interesting to see when users purchase apps (for all who didn't know, amazon updates sales hourly, though delayed). All the sales are bunched around 9-9, but I suppose that's due to Kindle Fire being US only?

@Harsh So, how long did it take you to get on the list? Immediately? And then it was only listed for 2 days?

I don't think its random. I have seen games released 2-3 weeks back on the new releases list. There must be a threshold of number of downloads before you get into that list though (this threshold will obviously be relative to how good/bad the other new releases are doing). To continue with the example of my game which was ranked #1 in new releases, it did 37 sales on day of release, 61 on day 2 when it was featured in the new releases list and reached #1 during the course of the day, day 3 peaked at 75 sales, it fell to 64 next day and then the drastic fall to 8 sales on day 5

On day 5, were you still on the list, or do you think that's when you were dropped? My trajectory is still moving upward starting on day 3, so we'll see if the pattern remains the same :)

obviously the game was out of the list on day 5 ...and never got in :(. That is why I am saying that app discovery is difficult. What your game should be able to do is be on the new releases list long enough to get into the top 100 list and then stay there for a while 1-2 weeks.
What happens then is that you get associated with the top selling apps and then your app is seen in the 'customers also bought' list whenever these apps are purchased. This is the only way to get discovered if you are out of the top 100..
    Good luck with your sales.
