Pro and Lite, or Free with iAD to Unlock full game?

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone had any insights into which is more successful:

1) To release lite and paid versions of your app linking the lite version to the paid version using URL forwarding
2) Release the app free with adverts and some game content locked but have an iAP to remove ads and unlock all content

Thanks

My suggest is to release the full paid app first , and not releasing any lite version for at least 2 weeks,
Then if you are not happy with sales you can release a free version with the option to unluck full game via IAP..

    Good luck mate

Thanks Roy. I know you've probably done loads of testing with this sort of thing so really appreciate the info.

Not trying to thread jack here, but when you release your free version 2 weeks later, is it best to make it have an IAP to unlock the full game or just have a link to the full game? Or does it really matter?

I think its up to you to decide , basically when you offer full unlock with IAP , your not sending the user away from your game to the appstore to make a new purchase , but you keep him in your game , and let him make the purchase there .. so i think its better , but really , its up to the developer to decide .

    Cheers

One bonus for a paid and lite version is you have two charts to appear in.

Also, if somebody really wants your game, they can buy it straight away without the barrier of two downloads and maybe getting drop off. Take Angry Birds for example. It's was recommended to me left right and center so I went straight to the paid version. If I download the lite version first, I may have played it for a while but never really desired the full version and so the creators would have missed out on my 69p. It's probably not as uncommon as you think.
