Does the GameSalad Logo Really Affect App Sales?

Hey guys, I've been using GameSalad a lot lately and am enjoying every minute of it. As the release of my first game draws nearer and nearer, I have a couple questions I was hoping some experienced developers could answer for me.

Since I don't have the money to purchase a pro membership at the moment, though I can't wait until I'm able to(the benefits look awesome). I've read that (due to all the crAPPs out there, who ruin it for everyone) the GameSalad splash screen might hurt my app sales. Also, does the free membership allow me to create a paid/light version of my game.

Thanks.

Well, now with the new release, free users can get rid of the splash screen and use their own custom one. Which is awesome.

And people would have to buy your app first before they even saw the GameSalad splash screen, and most of the general app purchasing public has no idea what, or who GameSalad is. It's the reviewers that trash talk GameSalad because of the crAPPs that have been made with it.

Oh cool, thanks for the speedy response. I also wanted to know if I can have
a paid and a light version of my game.

Yes you can. Pro makes this easier with the ability to have in app purchases, which is the way Apple prefers you to go about free/paid versions of your game. Sometimes they reject a lite version of an app because you are having 2 different apps of the same game on the store instead of just one that can be opened up to the full version with an in app purchase. And sometimes they let it go through. I think it all depends on the individual reviewer at Apple.

I personally don't think it matters to have the GS logo or not from the regular users stand-point. Where it matters I believe is from the eyes of the app reviewers. However this perception has been changing with the way some developers here are making top-notch games (e.g. gamesmold).

I agree with @SlickZero it's easier to get the users to purchase when they're already in the game.

Yuh i guess unlock full game with IAP might work but somehow i do receive email response regarding why some later levels are locked in the game. And i have to tell them that there's a payment in the game in order to unlock the full version. So probably different users have different opinion about IAP to unlock full game.

Put this way. Can anyone come on here and say "I've made over $10,000 and I have the GS Logo"

I've only released one game using Gamesalad so I can't say for certain, but my game did over 10k. It had the GS logo.
  • If your game is good, it doesn't matter if it has the GS splash screen or not. I usually don't care who/what company made the game, if its a good game, i will play it. :D

nope doesn't effect sales, as people tend to ignore these game splash screens, it's same as tv commercials people tend to tune out when it's being played...
usually people remove them for branding reasons.. if it was a adobe logo or microsoft logo or apple logo we probably won't mind and there's a reason for that.

@tshirtbooth ya it's like Beethoven with kiddie piano. no one will care what he's playing if they don't know who he is..

the problem is some people will put in the review saying this game is make by gamesalad, do not buy

and then when people buy an app they usually read reviews, so then you go

they would have to buy the app in order to SEE the splash scren.

theres always the spinning loading wheel gs has on the top right, but only true hardcore observers will notice..

    a good game sales regardless.

i can't find it anymore, but about a year ago there was a bunch of youtube videos of people reviewing game salad apps and just trashing the app before the loading screen went away.

once someone bought the app they found out about the splash screen, but as tshirt said, it was very difficult to get review sites to actually review your game. the good / bad ratio of game salad games is very skewed due to people just publishing templates.
