Hey guys,

I'm far enough into my next game that I can show you some sneak peeks of it. :P
The game name, and I don't know if it will stay, is Wizard Smash.
Below is a sample picture, I won't post any gameplay pictures as of yet, but when the time comes, I'll post it here.

Tell me what you think!

@Braydon_SFX ... looks interesting ... I can see that some of the art styles are a little inconsistent ... could I suggest you overdraw the penguin to create thicker black outlines to match the wizard and his pal? Also looks like the carpet and background could go through the same process. Perhaps use Spriteattacks tuitorials if you need some guidance .... I think with those elements cleaned up you might also find the gameplay looks better as mixing artstyles quickly stands out when things are moving. Hope that's helpful and not depressing! Keep going ... I do like the wizard and the creepy guy next to him!

I'm liking having 3 characters presented as a cast/team. Looks like it is set up to have an entertaining story to the game.

    @simo103 - you have a good eye. :-)

@HoneyTribeStudios - I am going to try and put my penguin in every game we pop out. if you remember, that penguin was in Penguin Pounce. :-)

Amazing work man! It looks great.
May i ask how did you creat it? With a program or by hand?
    Looking forward for the game!

@arkonllf - I had a lot of the art done for me this time around. I do a lot of Photoshop and Illustrator ( which is what we used to create this game ) but I like to take my precious time doing it. :P so, because I want this one out pretty quickly, I had some others do the art.

We're planning on getting multiple games out this year. Mostly mini, endless games. And then later this year maybe another level based game.

    UPDATE:

Just finished the story line for this game with the team.
Now It'll just be putting it all together. The app is about done anyway, so it shouldn't take me 5 months this time. :P

Hey guys, just a quick update.

I finished a whole lot today, I'm proud to say!
All of the art is almost done, I'm doing the rest of it so it might take a while, I try to be pixel perfect. :P
The game mechanics is complete, so it's just finishing up the art, and adding some achievements(hopefully with Game Center Achievements if they come out in time). I love these smaller games, much faster then creating a level based game. :)

I know I havent really said anything about how the game plays, but I'll be saving that for later. I might even get a video up, we'll see.
I will be looking for beta testers soon, so if your interested, please post below.

Do we get to hear the story or is it a secret?
  • Braydon_SFXBraydon_SFX Member, Sous Chef, Bowlboy Sidekick Posts: 9,273
    @Mr.Rinoy - yes, I think it's about time. :-)

Story: (for reference, look at the picture above)

The good wizard had trained other wizards throughout his life, but one turned on the good wizard, and took all of the magic spell books. He also locked you in the top of your castle and took all of your magic manna. Your goal is to destroy magic orbs that will release magic manna. Build up enough magic manna to get out of each level of the tower to regain your magic spell books, and take down the evil wizard.

....just a basic summery for you.
It probably doesn't make sense until you see actual gameplay.

    More to come.

Today was mostly spent completing the Game Over screen. I have decided to make the game all one scene. So I've been plotting where to put what etc.
Right now, I'm working on the menu. One of the toughest parts for me, I have no idea why.

Alright, here's a very short video of some gameplay.
Please note that, because I used Quicktime, the video lags. On the device, this is very smooth, and the sounds do not repeat etc.

Still working on this, but I think I have the overall style I wanted.
I still have some minor art to do, but it's getting pretty close to looking like a nice game. ;)

    More to come.

You may want to reconsider the arrow.

It would look really good if you had an arm layer above the wizard that rotated, so that it appear he was "casting" the orb.

As it stands now, you have the arrow originating at the Wizards crotch. At best it look unnatural; at worst....

looks good, your pretty talented with art

you love tsp's templates huh? :)"
your games look lighthearted and fun to play

Question tho, why does the bubble not expand fluidly? it jumps sizes and looks a little jerky
  • morphinegamingmachinemorphinegamingmachine Member, PRO Posts: 449
    i agree with @liguidgameworks

would look cool to have an arm, like the dragon ball guys shoot there balls the wizard could too

    Thanks for the support guys.

@LiquidGameworks - Yes, the arrow art is not done, it will be a wand, or something...Cool. :) So no worries, it'll be fixed before release.

@morphinegamingmachine - It's just the video, mate. On the iPhone it's as smooth as silk. Actually, I wanted to make this game before Tshirtbooth came out with the template. I was having trouble with the ball expanding, so Tshirtbooth offered to make a template and give me a copy for free. What could I lose? ;)

    More to come. :D

    Update 3/14/12:

I've discontinued development on this project for the time being.
Since I heard that the sound delay has been fixed for the Kindle Fire, I will be working on Penguin Pounce for the Kindle Fire.

I also have two other projects that are nearly complete.
One of them, is the boggle game that @tshirtbooth made the videos for, and another. Both should be done within a month or so. I'll be releasing those before I continue on this game. The Boggle game is Penguin Themed, has a lot of art from Penguin Pounce, which, I think is neat. It relates a whole lot. :)

Looks really cool... I'm not sure a wand coming from his groin is going to make anything better, probably a little funnier. The wizard with the magic wand in his pants haha.

Alright! I'm finished working on Frozen Finder, so now it's back to working on this game.
I have to say, this is probably my favorite game. It's so addicting it's hard to stop testing it and continue to work on it. :P
