I was looking around at gamesalad's competition and found the yoyo gamemaker. I read that you can make 3d games on their software. Does anyone have any experience with gamemaker? What does Gamesalad have that they don't and vise versa?

It seems that I find more and more non coding software like gamesalad every day.

Thanks guys

To make 3d games you still have to code in there scripting language.

I said this in the other thread, if you want to talk about differences that is fine, but asking how it works is not for this forum.

Yup, that's all I was asking jonmulcahy, the difference between the two.

@steeler0038 … one thing to do when checking out game development engines … look at their showcase or example games
if you are great … you can do anything in any system that will look great …

rule of thumb: if the caliber of games the company shows as what they consider great …
is mediocre in your eyes … than that will probably not be the program you will want to use.

I know, you just asked if anyone had experience, just wanted to stem the tide of people talking about how to use it ;)

LOL, i was just on YoYo's forums, reading about publishing to iPhone, a question was posted about a problem the user was having, the response was " READ THE FAQ! this discussion is closed"
Wow, i guess they don't like helping people?????

haha fzeed! There is no doubt that Gamesalad's Forums are the best out of any other software, no matter what you look at. The only thing I want from gamesalad is joints, and the native code, which I know both are coming this year. But I just can't wait any longer haha. I guess I'll just sit tight until gamesalad finally releases that update we're all waiting for.

I know and have used Game Maker. It is okay. It does have some things in it that I do like that GameSalad doesn't but over all GameSalad is better. Yes you can do 3D but it is def not that great and has a lot of bugs and issues. Also, they have so far only released about 5 games for iOS. If I were you, taking it from someone who has the experience in both, I would stick with GameSalad and just try and wait for what you are needing. You will fall into a lot less problems and I am telling you now that if you try out Game Maker you will have a lot of issues/bugs to deal with and not get the full results you are looking for and also you will in the end probably end upo coming back to GameSalad. Hope that is of some help.

    Good Luck,

I have years of experience with GM its solid with a lot of powerful functions (we released Bumps into retail with a special version of GM thanks to Mark Overmars a few years back).

It has joints, soft body physics, folders, snap to grid, paths, png collision and loads more cool features.

I have a couple of friends that work at Yoyo and it will rock when its released.

GM Studio will be GS's main competition when it's out.

The GM community is probably 100 times bigger than what we have here.

We also plan on making templates for GM Studio.

GameMaker also has the advantage of being respected both in the educational sectors and the games industry as a whole. They have links to some of the most respected universites teaching games related courses.

I agree it will be GS main competition once the new GM Studio is released. And with it being PC based, rather than Mac, it will hit the ground running with a much bigger potential user base.

I thought they were very restrictive on publishing - everything in the app store is published by them? They don't even have an ios section in their forum? which have a flood control on search ...argghhh.

Well, now GS also has that advantage ;)
