hey has anyone here ran GS viewer on both the iPad1 and iPad2? Any difference is total memory consumption?

i'm only have an iPad2. Would be cool if someone can provide a sense of how powerful the ipad1 is with GameSalad.

The ipad one is less powerful than 2. That's just a result of the better hardware of the ipad2 it has nothing to do with GS.

The performance on the iPad 1 is very much like the iPhone 4 (based on my finding) , if you want you can preview your iPad project on an iPhone 4 viewer and see the performance , its gonna be almost exactly as the iPad 1 .
Yet this solution is only if you have no access to iPad 1 whatsoever , the best practice is always to test on the actual devices for the most accurate results .

You can always run the viewer in the Xcode simulator there is a video on how to do that and you can rough test on any ios device and have it running any version of the ios. Not perfect but will give you an idea. I may do a better one showing you how to switch between versions of the ios.

@FryingBaconStudios good idea, but i'm not sure if a simulator will reflect the actual memory consumption for ipad1/iphone4.

Although nothing can replace real hardware it can get expensive owning all the devices. Soon there will be three generations of the ipad that is $1,500 to test properly. So when you can't afford the perfect situation you improvise the best you can. Another way to see is to use testflight and get ipad 1 beta testers.

@FryingBaconStudios yep the barrier of entry for testing/QA is increasing with more devices coming up. We haven't even talked about Android yet. I guess for indies like us, picking and choosing our platforms matter a lot. I wouldn't mind hoarding all Apple's products if it means i produce and quickly test a GS game.

I wouldnt even bother with the viewer on the xcode simulator. The numbers are usually nothing like they actually are.
