I was just wondering how keyboard input would work on the iPhone. Will a mini keyboard pop up? Or will we be able to overlay some keys on the screen? Also, will it be possible to make the same game use different control schemes on different devices?

To answer your first question, GameSalad will most likely popup the built-in virtual keyboard, but we can't announce definitively when that feature will be available. It would be possible right now with the features of GameSalad to create your own virtual keyboard, but it would require some lengthy custom rules.

To answer your second question, it is definitely possible to make a game that works for both the web and the iPhone with very little modification on the control schemes. GameSalad will initially be supporting the basic features of the iPhone and iPod touch: the accelerometer and dual-touch.

Hey, Jonathan here. My first post! WooHoo! Just here to give some thoughts about gameplay with the built-in mini keyboard. I use an iPod touch and the keyboard that pops up takes up a lot of the screen. And making a bunch of different actors for each key and putting them all on the game screen can also take up a lot of the screen.

Here are a couple of tips that I know is possible to make with GameSalad.

    1. Simple is good. If you only need movement keys and a button to do an action, then you will have lots of area for game play to happen.

    2. Complicated can be fun too. You can make some rules that use the accelerometer, and have actors that change functionality when you tilt.

This was the oldest topic in this forum.

(May be some kind of a secret! There seems to be only 517 pages. But actually there are 520. This was in page 520.)

Built-in keyboard. Hmm.. That would be nice! :D
