Hi
what are the industry going rates for artwork for mobile games? is there a industry survey like the GAG artists guild has one about rates and all ?

there are two things an artist will price...one is art concept. The other is production work, sprites, etc....I know for production, folks prefer to charge an hourly rate.

I was asked before by a Studio to do art for mobile app or game, but while I would know how to charge for a console game, a logo, or graphic design project, I'm haviing a hard time with some people's arguments in the mobile industry that, " you can't charge the same because well sell our games for 0.99, and we may not even make money " So i call it the 0.99 argument ahahahah.

I kinda know that some iphone games can make as much as a console game. Even the indie developers seem to do quite well....

any opinions?

I've seen $100-300 for a splash screen graphic.
$100+ for map layouts (about 4 screens in size)
    $100+ for a 15-20 state character animation.

Of course these prices are out of Asia...not the US or Europe.

    synthesis...
    that's from asia?
Not bad if you think, 100 - 300 for a splash and 100 for a character animation, like a walking cycle , a sprite..... It may be possible that some artists in US /europe would price around that... unless they are famous....

You know what is interesting ...i've seen overseas designers charging as much US/ europe designers.

Tshirtbooth, you do almost everything yourself....ahahahha.

That was one guy...but his work is exceptional and the $100 was his base price for a single image. I imagine his prices fall some with volume work. Plus he has 1 week turnaround.

We were quoted $250 for a full process including a sketch, then a color layout draft/workup, then a final polished version with unlimited reviews/revisions in between. That was about 3 images in one...so it was priced out more.

Plus the image we requested was 4 times the size of an iPod screen...so we can use it on the web and in print too.
