How do you find out if a review site picked up your game?

Yo!

When I first put out Monstrous in December, I stalked the main review sites hoping to see my app, but to no avail. Since then, my game has taken the inevitable downward turn, and has been holding steady near the bottom. I was just about to make it a free game (with iAds etc) when I noticed something strange. My downloads picked up! I was getting about 1 paid download a week, and now I've gotten about 20 in the last 3 days. So obviously, something happened.

How do you all keep tabs on your app's appearances on review sites? Google alerts? (I couldn't get that to function correctly).

I just check for my game's name in Google few times a week :)

Yeah Google alerts are pretty useful. Put in what ever key phrase you want it and will auto email you if a new web page gets created that uses that phrase. You can choose for it to email you for all pages created or just top pages. (So that means you don't need to manually check on google :) )

What search terms do you use? If I use any combination of Liquid Gameworks and Monstrous, most of the stuff I get is irrelevant (or a multitude of sites that merely list the fact that I exist).

In my google alerts, I have one for my company (Red Sky) and then a few others for the names of my game.

you could also try appannie to see if your game is featured somewhere.

App Annie works for tracking App store features, but not review sites. The sudden increase in downloads with no appstore feature leads me to believe somewhere, someone posted a review. I need to pick a more unique app name next time I think :P

yes, right. But it might be that the OP's game was featured somewhere which is why he suddenly got a spike in sales.

Are the sales coming from a specific country?

90% in US, and then shifted to Vietnam (may have even passed angry birds Rio in rankings, will be a hilarious screenshot) and Spain (according to Appfigures, will see in AppAnnie tomorrow).

@Micksolo Maybe my mind is mush right now... OP? It was my game which had a spike in sales, so I can see in AppAnnie that my game hadn't been featured...
