I have a png that looks great.. its a simple blue/white gradient image.. i've tried 8 and 16 bit color.. 16 just shows more "steps" than 8 bit does.. i can't do 32bit png.. is there some compression option that GS is using that i can turn off?

something like this: http://rf-photography.ca/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/8-bit-Gradient.jpg but not quite so extreme, but still very noticeable.

Thanks!
Caleb

    Add some noise to the image or some transparent pixels and itll get rid of the banding.

    @part12studios

    If you add noise your file size will increase (sometimes dramatcally) and, of course, your gradient will not look as smooth.

    To solve the problem simply add a single transparent pixel anywhere on the image, even changing a single pixel to 99% opacity (ie: 1% transparent) will magically smooth out your gradient on iOS** devices.

    (**assuming your target platform is iOS).
