The desk chair I use right now is a complete POS (and hurts my back) and I'd love to know if anyone has any recommendations for chairs that aren't too pricey.

hahaha cheap and quality are not 2 things that normally go together when it comes to office chairs. Id expect to spend $50-100 for something worthwhile. havent bought one ion quite a long while so who knows. you might be best heading down to a local office supply store.

I went to a local staples and sat in about 20 chairs there to find one I liked the best.
Even rearranged my top two picks next to each other, and switched back and forth until I could
decide on the chair. It was about $200, but remember it's a business expense that you can claim on your taxes.

An important lesson learned from years of study, designing, and gaming.

A happy ass is a productive ass indeed! I seriously loled on that one @LiquidGameworks.

Yeah, this is your buttocks we are talking about. So lets face it, it does a lot for you. Do something nice in return! Pamper it. It might reflect in a future game. You don't want someone thinking, "oh damn this boy musta be sittin on a throne of thorns when he built this game". See?

Ikea is a good bet for decent and cheaper ergonomic chairs.

I don't think you guys realize what I mean by "relatively cheap". I'm talking about like a 100-200 dollars, which is pretty much the minimum you can spend for a good quality chair. I'll probably just go by a local store and try a bunch out.

Seriously consider what you are buying as you may be parking your arse in for 10 years or more. The Herman Miller Aeron and the cheaper Mirra are about as good as it gets and you can get a educational discount. They also turn up on ebay. I reckon my Mirra chair has now cost me less than a dollar a week so consider it an absolute bargain.

Yeah you spend a lot of time in a chair. I have an Aeron myself, probably spent close to $900 on it:
