Pixelated graphics

I'm aiming to use a retro pixelated style on my game, I'm creating the graphics in Photoshop at tiny sizes. When I import will Gamesalad try and anti alias these graphics if I use them larger in the actual game? Or am I better scaling them up before I import?

Anyone know if I'm able to capitalise a whole word on this forum? I know I can use capitals at the start of a word but I wanted to do a whole word in capitals, anyone tried this ?

    :))

I should proof read before I type when I'm typing things I want to know about.

Not sure my gibberish first post made sense. I'm creating the graphics in Photoshop, but at tiny sizes so they are all pixelated and retro looking. 32 x 64 pixels for example, if I decide to scale them up in Gamesalad, will Gamesalad antialias these images making them blurry or keep the sharp pixels?

Your first post makes perfect sense.

They will be blurry if you do it that way. Here is a tutorial on pixel graphics in Photoshop.

And there are a bunch more if you want to Google pixel art in Photoshop and look around at the different methods

Thanks, thats a helpful link. I'm happy resizing them up, I just convert the image to Indexed colour and Photoshop doesn't antialias it.
I am struggling with finding the right size for images though, it would be great for them to work on both retina and standard screens. How do I find exact size to create graphics, there isn't a ruler or grid in Gamesalad is there?

Rightio, if I make a Photoshop file thats 480 x 320 at 72dpi and use that as a base for sizing sprites etc. I'll get a better idea of the size to make them. Then just multiply that by 4 to get a retina display ready graphic?

No, there's no ruler or grid in GameSalad. For retina, you just have to know what size you want the actors to be. You can do tests by dragging a box, or a imported actor, and drag it out to the size you want, double click it, and look at the size attributes. Then you would just double those size numbers, and make your art that size. GameSalad will use the large image for retina, and then duplicate that graphic at half the size, and use that for older devices. Of course keep the multiples of 2 rule in mind when making your graphics. You may have to round off to the nearest even number that is divisible by 2.

    Multiply it by 2 to get a Retina resolution. 480 x 320 = 960 x 640.

Just to be clear, the file is 4 times as large because you double the dimensions.
