Solids versus Ground in Platformer Template

This is my first post and I am quite new to GS.

I'm trying to understand why the Platformer Template uses both "Solid" and "Ground" actors. Why the need for two types? In the areas where the actor can move on screen, the areas are lined with a solid actor and a thin ground actor on top.

I can't see why the need for two different actors?

    Not looked at that one but its probably to do with collision the thin ground actor is probably what the hero is colliding with.

    Thats because they split the "ground" from a "ceiling" .. notice that in the hero actor there is an attribute "grounded" meaning when the hero is touching the ground .
    They didn't want the hero will recognize as grounded if his head is touching the "ceiling" ..

    But thats one way of doing things , you can do it your way and use only 1 type of actor..

    I want to display score on top of Platformer Template and it should on top in whole screens how can I do it for iPhone application??
