Adding Pop-up/Dialogue Boxes

Here is my situation.

In my platformer my player will encounter certain enemies and obtain certain objects. I was wondering if I could bring up certain dialogue boxes when a particular action is performed. For example, if a player picks up a "gun" I would like to bring up a quick dialogue box that pauses the game (however the scene is still visible behind the dialogue box) that says "You've obtained the gun, press 1 to shoot" And there will be an OK button to continue the game. I would like the same concept when reaching a certain point in the level as well. What would be the best way to go about this? Thanks!

You can use a Pause Game behavior for this. Just make a scene (e.g. called Pause) and add your graphic elements and any Display Text rules to it. On that new scene, add a button with when touch is pressed Unpause Game. The pause scene will overlay your other scene, so if the elements don't cover the entire pause scene, you will see the other scene behind it.

You can also achieve this with just an actor on the same scene in the highest layer or even a single scene with offscreen actors using Camera Control, but pause game tends to work best (although slowly) because it actually stops all game rules until the game is unpaused. I use this for dialog, for menus, for power-up shops, etc.
