Gamesalad Pro Should be Cheaper

I think that more people would buy Gamesalad pro if it were $250 a year. I certainly would. They should also have an option to publish to the android store without a pro account for $15 per game. And for the people that already purchased Gamesalad Pro for $500, they could just extend their membership for an additional year, so that they would be paying the same price. What are other peoples opinions on this? Would you buy Gamealad Pro if it were $250 a year?

Sorry bro but this has been discussed non-stop on the forum for the last year or so doesn't seem much point in discussing this again (though I will still force my personal thoughts onto you hehe). Just remember that Gamesalad should be thought as like any other firm such as Microsoft and Apple, they need to make money! Not many people complain about Apples high prices; if you can't afford them you get something lower spec and wait until you can afford the real deal ;) Same should apply to Gamesalad IMO. All other SDK's have just as expensive prices.

You can publish free. how can it get any cheaper. Pro is focused on making more money. If you are planning to make more money you need to be willing to drop the messly $500 cost of business and go to town. Just my Opinion of coarse.

I think that Gamesalad would make just as much money or more if they dropped the price to $250 because of the fact that more people would buy it. I see your viewpoint tendrdrmer but in an App Developers world there is no such thing as a messly $500 unless you have some kind of trick to get tons of sales. If you do, please let me know.

haha Well I'll just say that the nook market alone has nearly covered the cost of a pro license and that has just been jan sales. I was very much not interested in android publishing until I put something on the nook market and realized how great of an opportunity it is. $500 is not much when you consider the cost of many other businesses IMO.

I dont think twice as many people are going to purchase pro even at $250 price point in the end it Means GS is going to make less money.

Hey Thanks for the Advice tenrdrmer. I have been on the fence for about a month debating whether or not I should buy a pro membership or not. I think that I am going to go ahead and renew my membership and become a nook developer. Again thanks, are there any other secrets that you don't mind sharing?

I'm not tenrdrmer but from experience, the amazon store is much pickier than apple about the apps that are submitted for kindle fire.

I have a few Amazon apps and they havent seemed to be to picky. I'm not sure if they were submitted for the kindle fire though because of their confusing message of "apps have to be reviewed separately for the the kindle fire" Mr, Rinoy, How have your Amazon sales been?

I think if gamesalad pro was $1000, there be someone saying it should be cheaper and be like $500, and if it was $250 there be someone saying it should be $125..etc etc.

I think $499 is a lot. I also think $250 is a lot, but that includes Android, Mac and HTML5 publishing. By looking at the competition, $250 seems more reasonable to me.

$500 a year... that's more expensive than what I pay for Adobe Software. To upgrade the Creative Suite, it's like $499 every ~2 years... and I can skip versions as I'm not doing a subscription. Is GameSalad really as profitable for developers as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver and Acrobat is for developers/designers?

I thought I remember reading that GS was considering a pricing change?

    I agree with Photics

I just went PRO. It's quite a bit of money. But thanks for all the hard work there Game Salad team!

You can do a LOT with the free version, so that's very generous of them, and a great way to basically finish a whole game without even needing to decide whether to go Pro or not.

I was considering just releasing my first game without going PRO. But I would like to implement Leaderboards, and my own custom splash, and have some URL links in the game. So I'm paying up the $499, and just gonna have to make the most of my first year with Game Salad, and hope that the $499 doesn't seem like very much in a few months of profits. Gulp. :)

    All the best everyone!

Thanks for the feedback Hymloe! I checked out your website and it looks like you have a lot of experience with game making as you worked for a large game development corporation. If you don't mind my asking, why are you using Gamealad? The company that you worked for most certainly used Xcode. Do you know how to use Xcode? If yes, why use Gamesalad?
  • deadlightsdeadlights Member, PRO Posts: 235
As someone who's released games with both Xcode and Corona, I can say that Gamesalad is much faster to develop on for obvious reasons. Maybe that's why Hymloe is using it (?)
  • MegapixelIdeasMegapixelIdeas Member, PRO Posts: 476
Yeah I agree with you deadlights. Gamesalad is much faster but is does have it's drawbacks such as memory managment, lack 3D game capabilities and the fact that you can't make many utilities with it.

As far as dev tools go, Gamesalad is a bargain.

Plus, you can do almost everything on the free version... no reason you couldn't make an awesome game with Gamesalad free, sell it, and use the proceeds to buy the Pro version. IMHO, if you can't make a good game with Free, there really isn't anything in Pro that's going to help you do it.

I was a Game Designer at Firemint, but I have done very little programming. So I use Game Salad because I can make a game entirely on my own!

And the more I use it, the more I realise you can do with it. So I'm keen to make a few more games with it, for sure. It can be frustrating at times, but overall, it lets me make things without having to convince a coder to work on my game. And ultimately, if you want to be a game designer, I think you have the most options at your disposal if you get right in there and do it yourself, because you learn the actual language of implementing the game, not just design it at an arms length away. :)
