Hello,

I've been using GameSalad for a month now and have been busy asking questions and getting help from some of you guys. I apologize for the late introduction.

I live in the Bay Area, San Mateo CA to be exact. Was a graphic designer for 4 years and a 3D artist for 7 years and still loving it! I've worked for Activision and Electronic Arts and currently moved to a well known mobile game company.

My goal is to make my own games as a hobby and for a little extra income on the side. Finishing up my first game real soon and will post it when it's ready to be shown. It's a side scrolling shooter!

So far people in this community has been very helpful to me and I'm very thankful. Of course if anyone has questions about 3D or 3D to 2D process please let me know and I'll do my best to help out! I specialize in 3DS Max, Maya, Zbrush, and Photoshop.

Cheers!

Thanks for the warm welcome guys!!
@ MotherHoose, Actually my wife made the logo! She's also a 2D/3D artist. Met her at EA 3 years ago :)>-

My style is not as stylized as hers but we work well together for sure! If you guys are interested in a sneak peek of one of our future game...let me know!

Thank you MH!! I had this game wrote up and designed 2 years ago but didn't have the means to make it. Thanks to GameSalad, it's going to finally become a reality! It's going to be a huge undertaking so expect to see it after 6 months at the least! I'll eventually post a WIP since I'm sure you guys would want to see the process.

That's really good. Production quality! I like the composition and the overall design. It's Neat and detailed. So far, i think your artwork is most noticeable in the forum. How long to take you guys to produce the entire scene? I been thinking to use 3D software, but this kind of scene at least take me 2 days to create. Btw, here's my opinions. why not add depth of field to your scene. And, the sky background doesn't really fit into your scene. Else, i like it all. :)

PS: post more, or maybe open another post for your WIP. I will keep my eyes on your work.

@ kinwaing, thanks for the compliments and crit! I totally agree with the BG being a different style. It's been bugging me for awhile but haven't had time to change it. I'm working on 2 other games that will be released within the next weeks and will probably get to this one a bit later on.

@ MegapixelIdeas, thanks for the compliment. I've saved your info and will let you know or if I find anyone who may be interested!! I know plenty of artist in the mobile/console game industry.

    Welcome!
Very nice artwork. I love the trees.
I find it very hard to make nice cartoon trees in 3d. I have some experience in Blender 3d. For my current project I used a particle system for the leaves but getting the light right is very difficult. Light is one of the hardes part of building 3d environments I think.
A bit of topic perhaps but anyway. ;)
  • redonix76redonix76 Member Posts: 24
@ LudwigHeijden, yeah lighting takes a bit of practice, but that's part of the fun! Particle system is easy to implement but hard to render correctly, especially with fancy lighting and shadows.

My philosophy is keep it simple, practical, and if it takes too long to achieve something, it's best to re-think the idea and find a different way to do it. There's always more than one way to make things work.

@redonix76 we have similar philosophy. I think we both know "if you produce some kick-ass art, but take too much time, your director still kick your ass."

    Looks amazing, redonix76.
I can't wait to see what you produce in the future.
  • redonix76redonix76 Member Posts: 24
@ Clock, Agreed! Being a game artist, you're always under pressure to get things done on time. Luckily I've never had a mean art director, although I've heard of a few...in the industry.

@ Braydon_SFX, thanks man. Hope I can live up to everyone's expectations!

btw how long to take you to create the whole scene? start from modeling part
  • redonix76redonix76 Member Posts: 24
@ Clock, It took my wife and I 2 days to get this modeled textured and rendered. I did the concepts, we both modeled and I put everything together and render. It took a bit of tweaking to get the scene layout and lighting to feel the way I want.

Also not all models were had UVs and were just procedural colored materials...to save time. All in all, I'm happy with it...except for the BG since I rushed that part.
