Have you released an iOS game only to have it make little-to-no money?

I am looking for a few developers who would be interested in selling their completed GS games as templates on my website, http://LicenseMyCode.com

Currently, the site only sells Corona SDK templates, but I am expanding to include GameSalad, cocos2d, and unity templates.

I will be accepting only four games from each framework and am looking for high quality, complete games; not separate components nor simply demos. The templates will be sold as non-exclusive licenses for $49 a piece, of which I will take a percentage and send you the rest.

If this sounds like something you'd be interested in, send me an email at Clay (at) LicenseMyCode (dot) com -- I will be making a decision in about a week, and will be accepting the 4 highest quality submissions. Please note: to be eligible: your game must appear live in the App Store and you must own the rights to all assets (art and otherwise) in your game.

Thanks a lot, everyone; I look forward to working with you.

A complete game for only 49$???

Not bad, right :) -- Seriously, though, I think the quantity sold will make up for the lower cost; I originally considered selling for $99/game, but I am testing whether or not the amount sold at $49 will be greater-than 2x of the previous sales. The prices may switch back to $99 per game at some point, but the choice will be made on which approach makes more money.

You want GameSalad developers to give you their games projectFiles?
and all their IP rights to those files, to you?
so you can do what you like with them?

and, what you would like to do is sell those gameProjectFiles on your website …
for $49 or $99 … to other GS developers!

you hope to sell many copies (IP rights) … and get $49-$99/sale!
and then decide how much of that money you will share with the developer?

sounds like a good deal … but only for you!

if we wanted to sell our templates/projectFiles … members would use GS Marketplace
if members want to buy full-game templates … they will select from offerings in the Marketplace

or, as most of us have websites we can do our selling there!

nice selection of 4 Corona game templates you have on your website/store
**Note that all 4 templates for sale are your own works! …

nice of you to join today to try to get GS members to contribute to moneyMaking scheme

    Hey MotherHoose,

First off, I'm not asking for a transfer of the rights to the IP to me... All original rights to the works would obivously remain in the hands creator; my site is selling non-exclusive licenses to use the templates.

Secondly, while the GameSalad marketplace is great, my site offers additional targeted eyes on an exclusive, limited selection of templates per framework (which means more visibility, etc.)

The percentage would not be pulled out of a hat at random, and would obviously discussed before putting templates up for sale.

I feel you have made a lot of unfair assumptions about me and my site without asking any questions or contacting me first. I'm sure this won't be a perfect solution for everyone, but I'm not asking for everyone to be featured on the site.

If you have any serious questions / interest, please feel free to email me respectfully.

I'm not some big, bad corporation, I'm a struggling indie developer offering a service to those who need it. If you don't need the service / can create your own website / don't want to sell your apps as templates, fine, but that doesn't mean I'm trying to screw over the GS community. Others have already expressed interest in what I am offering, and I ask that you consider the feelings / thoughts of others before unnecessarily stomping on someone's toes in the future.

    Thanks,
    Clay

Edit, also: I have another GS account which I have used for nearly two years now as a part of this community; my game dev skills started developing with GS. Another unfounded, unfair assumption.

Since you are offering a payment as percentage of sales, I find it only fair to ask you how many sales your current 4 games have made? Also, could you be more specific when you say " I will take a percentage and send you the rest." A number perhaps?

The idea would be to email me to ask more specific questions if you are interested; not all information regarding the site (sales stats, etc) need to be public, but I would certainly discuss such factors with someone who qualifies for posting on the site in private.

whenever you sell other people's IP you are involved in a transfer of rights
used to be termed copyright … a right to copy (still is in USA)
… and a license to use is a transfer of limited IP rights
whether you explicitly asked or not … that is the definition of what you want to do

I did not make assumptions … I thoroughly checked out your post/site/your work
you registered your site: March 24, 2012
    (edited out)

the templates you offer are for games you released on the iTunes App Store
    between Sept and Dec 2011

you have not listed any GS gameTemplates …

you ask for Art/Music/SFX as well as code?

I never for one moment thought you were a big, bad corporation
I thought of you as someone trying to make money off of other people's endeavors
… or worse garnering some free templates for complete games done in GS for your use …
in exchange for a promise of listing them on your site with a price tag

I never doubted that you would post those templates on your site

if you have some success with your dream of selling templates … and I do wish you luck …
then you would be in a position to offer a service to other developers

starting out with no credentials … no track record of sales
you are just asking others to trust you … and they will make money
    IMO that borders on: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confidence_trick

In general the topic of your post … made me think that that was your personal experience

as a member of this Forum … you should have posted as such …
doing so would have added some credibility to your offer

I know I am harsh and cruel in these post …
but I would rather your rancor …
than see a fellow member having their hopes built on a poor foundation

    MotherHoose,

I do not appreciate you posting my apartment number and will be requesting that a moderator delete this thread.

I would appreciate if you personal info about me in the mean time.
  • LicenseMyCodeLicenseMyCode Member Posts: 8
Again, mods, please delete this thread. I'm not sure why users have started attacking me, and I am completely uncomfortable with the posts of MotherHoose. I have done nothing but try to provide a fair service for anyone interested, and will rethink my involvement with GS and it's community in the future.

    Thanks,
    Clay

Also, motherhoose, as I've stated, I would have answered any questions via email and your assumptions about myself, my integrity, and my understanding of the legality of transferring licenses are assumptions because you did not contact me and clarify anything first.

Doing a whois on my website and posting personal information does nothing but make you seem unethical. Please remove such info / close this thread.

Also: by posting such info you are in violation of the GS terms of service. I will contacting GS staff and following up with my families legal team if such info is not redacted.
