How to make a mountains and canyons

So I have this 10% done

But I ran into a little bit of a problem and need to know how to make a mountain and a canyon for this island.

    Accepted Answer
    The easiest way is by tweaking the top down a little and show hills a little side on. Adding a simple hill shape and duplicating it in lighter and darker colours with some highlights (transparent gradients).

    After that it's a matter of putting up the 'smoke screen' by adding detail and distracting from the 'wrong perspective'.
