Hmm, iHeight just moved above one of my free apps which gets downloaded around 200+ times a day! Could this mean that iHeight got downloaded 200+ times? I will find out tomorrow and let you guys know the sales report!
Build new little apps like this that can be bundled to create a "toolkit". Then when you have 4 or 5 similar apps, brand it as a toolkit app. Make a couple of the less popular tools free (to get users) and advertise your full toolkit within those.
ToolKits always perform better than individual apps. use the individual tools to promote the toolkit...which has bonus tools and cooler stuff in it...to get them to upgrade.
Let this app "breathe" a while as you work on your other tools. Let it do its thing for a month or so.
For now...only update if there is a known bug to fix.
I would highly recommend what synthesis said, You can also sell your tools individually for like 99c and if you make like 6 7 more you could easily sell it for like $5 (if there as functional as your first one) and yeah definitely make some of them free, because if people get some for free, they'll definitely be more willing, to buy your apps especially if they feel like they got a deal, but dont be ( I beleive its your first app) you've done really well and with more time and experience and more applications it will really help drive your sales! Good luck!
EDIT, updates do lead to increased sales, but for a utility app theres not really much more fuctionality you could put in (I mean of course you could, but for the effort to sales ratio, youd be better off working on your next utlility app)
Thanks guys! I think I will make more utility apps, and do the tool box app. Not sure where to start, maybe an idistance, all I would have to do is reverse the trigonometry of iHeight. Any other ideas?
I recommend that you do the toolkit and sell it for $0.99-$1.99 (not $5). And then put a couple of free tools out to use as "fingers" with ads in them to try to guide people to the toolkit.
Don't price yourself out. A $5 app needs to be EXCEPTIONAL...otherwise it will sit on the app store shelf and collect dust. Play the numbers game...if its good...you can make a lot of $$$ with a $.99 app...it just needs to be great...Like the 25 games for $0.99 that has sat at #1 for weeks. If it were $5...no one would buy it.
An update for a straight forward app could be difficult.
I'm curious if you could make it work for smaller things by taking two angle reading (I haven't played with the tilt stuff). But if you were standing close to a door, could you aim (sight) the iPhone at the bottom to record an angle and then the top to calculate the height?

It's free I think! Tracks the top 300, and you can add 'favourites' i.e. your own apps
Hope that helps!

That's disappointing...I was hoping for more...for you and for me both...since we have a lifestyle app coming soon.
Hopefully things will improve...or at least remain steady for you.
Keep us posted how this develops out.
