Ok, I know i sound ultra-noobish, and the truth is, i definitely am. I'm trying to learn this stuff, so I checked out the youtube videos, but I still don't understand a lot. At least, not enough to make a simple game like pac-man by myself. The videos i looked out were by gendai. Is there anywhere that i can go that will tell me what all the behaviors do and stuff, and all the types of attributes you can make, and basically just overall a complete beginner tut for a noobishness nubbage like me that knows absolutely nothing? My friend told me about this site, so I checked it out but i just cant figure all this out. I need like the 100 hour tutorial or something if it exists.

thanks if you can help me!!!

start super simple... even pac-man could be hard because of the darn shapes we have in gs... I would start with some things like just having a ball you can move or bounce... Also use all the demos you can find, look at the code and understand whats going on in it. If you still are making a game and need help, thats what this is here for and one of the many great members will answer.

    @ownage11-

A good starting point for a beginner is to walk yourself through the tutorials (text and videos) on GameSalad Cookbook. GameSalad Cookbook is our official learning destination for GameSalad developers. It includes tutorials, a dictionary of terms, and a Q&A destination.
    Find the tutorials here: http://cookbook.gamesalad.com/tutorials

Also, we have just recently released an OFFICIAL GameSalad manual! YAY!
Read about and download it here: http://gamesalad.com/blog/gamesalad-manual-now-available

As you can see, our forums are incredibly active and helpful. There are so many expert level game designers on here willing to lend a hand- so ask away with all the noob questions that you would like! :)

And welcome to the community! We look forward to seeing your games as you learn the tool!

wow, awesome quick responses at 1 am. You guys are cool thanks. And one more question, if I was too make a platformer shooting game for the mac thats kind of like shot gun fun fun (if you know what that game is) i should be using this program right? I mean, i tried to learn xcode and its so freakin hard im a serious beginner.

YOu can make a game like shot gun fun fun in no time at all with gs.. you are in the right place... once you understand gs you will be shocked how fast it will come together... also don't just try and copy games but rather make them your own ideas and be creative.

the only reason im asking is because im a little surprised that gs isnt like super popular. I mean, it seems like an amazing alternative to code. So, why don't i see like millions of people on here?

shhhh.... its our little secret... but really... gs can be slow for some games and also many people overlook the power of gs because of how simple it is..

    I like to experiment.

If you're in the middle of a game and don't know how to do it, search it on youtube or post the questions in the forums.

I find I retain the most information on how to do it if i've implemented it into one of my games, even a test game.

You can also start with an easier game to craft, follow a few tutorial videos until you have some more comfort with the tool, and then branch out and make something more complex (with the help of the kind folks on the forums).

I teach GameSalad to elementary/middle school students and have some videos that may be of use to you: http://tinyurl.com/GoGameSalad. I recommend starting with video #23 ("ASTEROIDS #1"). If you need the template we used with our students, just send me a PM or post here again.

:) Pacman is really quite an undertaking, if you are a total beginner. Learning the bare basics of programming can help you quite a lot. Even if you don't write code in gamesalad (yet), you do still code.

I would suggest something really simple as a first game, like a shooter. That teaches the basics, and after that it's all learning, trying, screwing up, and learning again. ;)

Coming from Torque and the likes, Gamesalad is like a breath of fresh air with it's helpful forums, and actually relatively useful tutorials. And most people here do like to help when help is needed.
