Cant get GS viewer on iPhone

My phone is running iOS 5.1 and my mac is running 10.6.8 and xCode 4.2. I can't compile the GS viewer 992. Is it safe to upgrade my xCode under snow leopard or am i screwed and have to switch to Lion?

xcode will not go higher than 4.2 for snow leopard

Ok so i have 4.3 installed in Lion. Once i get the viewer on my phone, will the phone work with GS under Snow Leopard?
