smallest pixels for a main character person?

Im making a chess-like game where you tap a chess piece, and then you tap where you want to move it. The chess piece however has more spaces to go than a normal chess game. My question is for a character that you are going to tap many times in the game what is the smallest pixels that I should look into? Right now my characters are 35X35. Can I go any smaller than this? How small can I go while still keeping the nice user experience.

    To keep it a positive user experience, I definitely wouldn't go smaller than that. Nothing worse that trying to tap something and selecting something else every time you play.
