The better your computer, the better it will run. The more actors in the scene , the slower it will run. The bigger the images , the slower it will run...check the cookbook man

Also you already made a thread on this. And gamesalad is in beta still. Performance in the creator has vastly improved. You should have seen it years ago, you literally would get a minute in before it crashes and you lost your work. It has greatly improved and has been improving more with every release.

I'm pretty sure a hundred attributes is alot , that's probably why it's slow

@Ebreeze I don't think the attributes are the issues here. Not sure how to answer without knowing the spec of the Mac that @ownage11 is using.

Attribute count shouldnt effect creator performance. Ive had projects with hundreds of attributes.

No Worries :) we all need to learn at some point. If you want to see your specs just click the apple and then about this mac. That will tell you your processor and your Ram ( Memory).

2 GB of RAM is pretty small as far as memory goes. Consider upgrading. I was using GameSalad with 4 GB of RAM and it was a bit sluggish and would crash quite often. I just upgraded to 12 GB and it's made a big difference.

If you can't afford to upgrade your computer, make sure you're not running other software while using GameSalad. Try looking at Activity Monitor's System Memory tab and checking the amount of Free memory you have (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1342?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US). If it's pretty low (e.g. under 200 MB) with a GameSalad project file open, you'll have a hard time running certain software.

It really isn't GameSalad per se that is the problem here. You'll probably have problems with other robust software (e.g. Photoshop, even Safari when visiting certain sites).

i only have like 10 actors, but i think I have about a hundred attributes that just manage locations and things like that, would this cause problems?

  • ownage11ownage11 Member Posts: 39

Why on earth do you need 100 attributes? for a simple game? You might want to wait for tables at that rate... Also, could you share your machines specs like ram and stuff. We might be able to make some suggestions to get you up and running faster...Its not the program because with my MacBook Pro it runs fine... That said... I have it a nice one...i7 and 6gb ram atm. I usually run 8gb but one of my cards failed :(. I can run gs, photoshop, Adobe Premiere Elements, gimp, and any other program you might need for a game.

i dont even know what a Ram is. Sorry yea im kind of hopeless right?
um, i do know that my project is 1.5 mb
    thats not too big, right?
I have so many attributes because im trying to have a moving game where you click a person, then move him a certain amount of spaces.
And i want a cpu guy too, so im trying to make him move based on where the player is, and so i have to go through like every single area where the player would be, and then tell the enemy to move based on where he is. Uh, yea i think im screwin up

    @tshirtbooth
I thought that attributes don't slow GS down. I thought that it were the behaviors like "timer, constrain, interpolate, move, move to, etc."
Is it really right that we have much attributes it will slow GS down?! And when it's so...are this the universal attributes or the attributes in the actors?!

And another question: when I have much attributes in a table, does it slow GS too?!

I have over 100 attributes in my game and I don't find the creator particularly slow most of the time... although if I have it open for several hours I do start to notice it slowing down. Closing GS completely and reopening it seems to fix the problem. My system:

    3.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
    16GB RAM
    2TB Serial ATA Drive+256GB SSD
    AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2GB GDDR5

I wonder if the Creator has some kind of memory leak?

hey guys sorry about the title of this thread, I noticed it got changed lol. I didn't mean to say why is gamesalad bad, i meant to say why am i too suky for gamesalad's awesomeness. Thats what i meant i was just frustrated at my own sukiness

@JustMe74 Same here, although I don't have as many attributes, still quite a few plus a lot of animations. I've had interemittent issue with slowdown, bullets firing quicker than their timer allocates etc. BUT...since they are intermittent it tells me it's the memory. A restart of GS does it, if not a good restart of the computer will (I hardly ever shut down, just sleep).

@RP - Yup, that pretty much mirrors my experience with it. I hope this issue gets corrected, but its more of an annoyance than anything else.

I have a MacBook Pro 2.26 ghz with 4 gb of Ram and the creator works well for most of the time. And yes, closing GS and then opening helps!
